WOMBLE—Died at Caldwell, Texas, November 26, 1893, Sister Lucy Chiles Womble, wife of Bro. W. T. Womble, and daughter of S. S. [L.L.] and Emily Chiles of this place, who were among the first settlers in this country. She was not regarded as seriously sick until a few hours before her death, when Bro. Womble was wired to come home from Lampasas, but it was too late to meet her alive. The shock was almost insufferable to him as he met his weeping, motherless children at the door. The deceased was born in this town September 14, 1850; was baptized by Elder T. S. Allen and united with the Baptist church in Caldwell in June, 1865. She was married to Bro. W. T. Womble at her mother's residence (her father being dead), January 29th, 1874. She was the mother of ten children; all survive her, except one who died September 13th, 1882, aged 14 months. The oldest child is nearly 19 years of age, the youngest only nine months old. "Our sister spent all her life in this town, except about five years. From 1875 to 1885 the family lived in Gause, Texas. She lived a devoted Christian life and was highly esteemed by all; but nowhere did her virtues shine brighter than in her family circle as a loving wife and mother. She was always deeply interested in the welfare of the church, as the writer had the opportunity to know, having been her pastor for several years. He can never forget her words of cheer and sympathy; but alas! The Lord has called her home. May her life and prayers yet bear fruit, in that all her children may turn to the Lord and meet her in the glory land. Pastor Tynes and the writer officiated at the funeral. There was an unusually large number of the people present, showing their respect and sympathy for the family. May the Lord comfort the bereaved.

"Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
But trust him for his grace,
Behind a frowning providence,
He hides a smiling face."
--W. E. James
