Dr. John E. Allder of Cane Hill Passes Away

This contains excerpts from Dr. Allder's funeral memorial service.

Dr. John E. Allder of Cane Hill, one of the best known physicians in this section, died of heart trouble at his home on Thursday, September 26th. Dr. Allder was 75 years of age, but was still vigorous, and was engaged in work about his home when the attack came, which caused his death within a few minutes.

Dr. Allder was born in Christian County, Kentucky, January 13, 1843. He is the son of James Allder and Sarah Jane Pyle Allder. After his father's death in 1858 the family moved to Cedar County. He enlisted in the 6th Missouri Cavalry in 1861 and served until the end of the Civil War.

He married Martha Pyle on March 6th, 1872, who survives him, as do their four children. Mrs. C.F. Landers of Dadeville, Miss Etta Allder now teaching at Troy, Kansas, Lieut. A.E. Allder of Fort Riley, and Dr. B.B. Allder of Cane Hill; all of whom were in attendance at the funeral.

Dr. Allder graduated from Medical College at Louisville, Kentucky, in 1875 and had since practiced his profession at Cane Hill.

Funeral services were conducted at the home on Sunday, September 29th by Elder W.H. Watson. Interment was in Fullington Cemetery, under the auspices of Dadeville Masonic Lodge, of which Dr. Allder was member, and assisted by delegations from Greenfield, Everton, Fair Play, Stockton and Arcola lodges.

As an evidence of the love and respect in which Dr. Allder was held, the whole countryside gathered at the funeral to honor his memory. It was probably the largest gathering of the kind ever held in the county. 93 automobiles followed the hearse to the cemetery, besides the numberless horse-drawn vehicles.
