Funeral Held at 2nd Ward for David C. Caldwell

Funeral services for David C. Caldwell, 66, were conducted in the Second ward chapel Tuesday at 11 o'clock with Charles S. Carter of the bishopric in charge. Mr. Caldwell died Sunday following an operation in the Salt Lake general hospital for cancer of the stomach. He has been ailing two years.

A quartet from Naples consisting or Mrs. Ella Goodrich, Lynn Goodrich and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Goodrich with Bernice Lybert accompanist, sang “In the Garden,” invocation was by Fred G. Bingham, vocal solo, “One Fleeting Hour,” Mrs. May Jorgensen, with Mrs. Mary Manwaring at the piano.

Charles H. Colton was the first speaker. Vocal solo, “Face to Face,” was sung by, Frank J. Kennard. President Archie Johnson and Mr. Carter were were speakers and the quartet sang “The Harvest Time is Passing.” Benediction was by Phillip Watkins.

Internment was in the Dry Fork cemetery under the direction of the Swain funeral Home with the grave being dedicated by Mark M. Hall.

David Clarence Caldwell, 66, a son of a Mormon Battalion veteran Mathew and Nancy Lane Caldwell was born at Fountain Green, Sanpete county. October 37, 1873 [sic]. He spent his boyhood days in Sanpete and Emery counties. Coming to Ashley Valley with his father's family in 1885 he settled in Dry Fork. He was married to Sally Hall who preceded him in death three years. While most of his life was spent in Dry Fork, he also lived in Cedarview, Salt Lake and also in Vernal where he was custodian of the Second ward chapel for 3 years. He was an Elder in the LDS church.

He is survived by four sons: Alfred Caldwell or Spokane, Wash., Ivan and Reed Caldwell of Salt Lake and Forest Caldwell of Vernal, two daughters Mrs. Karl Collier. Vernal, and Mrs. J. Lowell Fox of Salt Lake, 16 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, four brothers, Mathew L., Ellis and Burton L. Caldwell of Vernal, George Caldwell of Salt Lake, one half brother, Wm. G. Caldwell and one half sister Emmeret Caldwell of Lapoint.
