DEATH OF A CHRISTIAN WOMAN
Mrs. Susan Bates, the venerable mother of Assistant Post Master H. S. Bates, died suddenly at Indianpoalis Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Bates was visiting her son Frank at that place, where she had been since December, and her death was quite unexpected. Mrs. Bates was a native of Kentucky, and at the time of her death was 83 years old. Since 1859 she has lived in Indiana, most of which time was spent in Bloomington. She was well known by many of the people, especially the older citizens, and held in the highest regard because of her many Christian virtues and kindly disposition. She spent most of her time here staying with her son Henry, where she always had a welcome home and was the joy of the household. She was a life long member of the Christian Church.

The funeral of Mrs. Susan Bates took place Thursday from the Christian Church. The remains arrived yesterday at 4 o'clcok and were taken to the home of the grandaughter, Mrs. Charles Sears, east 8th street. The services were largely attended and were in charge of Prof. Atwater and Rev. S. R. Lyons, both of whom made appropriate talks, Prof. Atwater reading an interesting history of the life of the deceased. The body was interred at Rose Hill.
