Services for Dan Spencer Wright, 83, of Abernathy, Texas will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010 in the Abernathy Church of Christ with Steve Gauntt officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, Texas. The family will receive friends at the Abernathy Church of Christ from 9 a.m. until service time.

Mr. Wright died Monday, July 5, 2010 in Plainview.

Dan Spencer Wright was born Feb, 27, 1927 in View, Texas, and served in the United States Army in the 397th MP Battalion in Germany from July 1945 until February of 1947. Following his service in the Army, he married Nola Vallaree Ruminer on Jan. 25, 1951 in Hermleigh, Texas, and they moved to Abernathy in 1953 from Eastland, Texas. He was a member of the Church of Christ and had served as Deacon. He served on the Abernathy Chamber of Commerce Board, as well as other volunteer work. He retired from Diamond Shamrock, after 25 years, in 1982.

Survivors include his wife, Vallaree Wright of Abernathy; two children, Mona Redinger of Plainview, Texas and Robin Wright and his wife Sheryl of Buffalo, Texas; three grandchildren, Stacey Moore, Jennifer Leago and Brandy Wright; 3 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Ayden Leago and Zachary Moore; and 2 sisters, Ruby Floyd and Willie Hobbs.
