Aged 16 Years, 2 Months, 16 Days.~David Martin SHETTLES was the son of Abner and Caroline SHETTLES. He was named for his grandfather David. David Martin SHETTLES died during the Civil War from pneumonia after he and his mother sneaked a bale of cotton to Memphis to sell it to the yankees who paid more for the cotton than they could get from the confederates.
