Children by Elizabeth not account for:
Edward b. 7 Apr 1839, England d.after 1851 census-England
Still born baby abt 1842
William Ailsby /Bagley b.23 Dec 1845, England d.After 1851 census England
Thomas-(Tommy)b. 17 Jan 1849 England-he came to the U.S. and appears in the 1851 Canadian Census. Family story was he was a sailor & died at sea.
John remarried to the women who took care of Elizabeth when she arrived in Canada-Mary Annie MacDonald before 1854(wasting no time as he had children that needed a mother and who better to do that job than the women who was already taking care of them) and had 6 more children. Mary Annie died in 1879 in Detroit.
Then in 1882 he again married for a third time-Ellen Hunter who was 20+ years younger than him. They say no "fool like an old fool"
Contrary to his Obit, he did not have any children by Ellen, but she did managed to inherit everything even though he had left some money to children, especially Mary Rosamond Bagley Denstaedt, my GGrandmother. It was hard for her to get to the attorney's office and when she finally made it, he told her someone had beat her to it-to bad!
John was a lot of things in his life, but never a Governor nor was he related to the real Governor Bagley. I am sure he was a "character" as stated in his obit, but for many reasons we won't go into here, but mostly because he was a great story teller. He also never had any children by his third wife-Ellen. Also his age varies by 10 years, depending on the time in his life

Died Saturday at the age of 96 years
John W. Bagley better known as "Governor Bagley", one of the most unique characters of Pontiac's history, died at his home on Florence Avenue Saturday evening at the venerable age of 98. He was born in England and came to Leamington, Canada, when 35 years of age. He moved from Leamington to Detroit where he was appointed Veterinary Surgeon for the street railway which then used horses for the moving power. Dr Bagley came from Detroit to this city about 30 years ago where he has since made his home. He was one of the best Veterinary surgeons in this part of the state.
He leaves a wife Ellen D. Bagley, three children by his first wife, John Jr. of Duluth; Charles and Mrs. John Potter of Detroit; his second wife had four children, Hiram H. Hunter of Toledo; Frank M. of Chicago, Ill; George D. of St Louis, MO; and Elmer D. of Detroit.
