Born Oct. 1-1926 at home of my Grandfather John & Anna Dworschak. Grew up in the Eby school district & attended & graduated from Eby Grade school. When I was around 10 yrs old and older I usually stayed with my Grandparents in the summer months & helped work on the farm & doing chores. Some summer evenings after chores we went to the Molalla River for a cool swim. Every 4th of July all the Burley's would be at Grandparents Cy & Mabel's home for dinner & usually had 5 gal. of ice cream from Mt. Angel Creamery.

My dad & uncle Cecil bought a 160 acre place at Colton at Canyon creek & had a sawmill on the place. Also stayed there one summer & dad & Cecil cut alder logs & drug them in with a horse. Mom did the cooking etc. This was about 1938-44.

Uncle Cecil enlisted in the Navy soon after the war started. My brother Vernon was drafted in the Army in January, 1944 and served several years in New Guinea, and after the war was sent in with the occupation forces. Later died there of smallpox, he was working in an isolation ward. I was in the navy at the time being drafted in 1944. Served on the USS Sperry AS 12, Sub squadron 32. Spent 9 months on the island of Guam. Vernon and I worked at the Molalla flax plant before being drafted, prior to that we worked on a farm for Christopher Doppleb.

After I was out of the Navy I had a job working for Byron Allison making lath. Also had a truck (a) 1935 Ford & hauled lath bolts for the mill. Worked for Larson & Sattler making lath & also drove truck & delivered same in Portland area. This was before the Allison job.

Worked with John Morris (after the war) and he got in started going to the Mennonite Church at Barlow. This is where I eventually met my wife Violet Conrad. I had a motorcycle at that time, a 1947 Indian. John had a Harley, Ken Dworschak had a Harley, Bud Mishler a Harley, Gene Anderson a Harley, Lawrence Walch an Indian, Bob Burley an Indian. We used to go riding on Sunday afternoons. I eventually sold my Indian & bought a 1940 Mercury so I could take Violet out on a date. This was in 1948, hard times then for several years. Out of work part of this time.

John and I bought a place at Mulino 1/2 way up Mulino hill. Also boarded on the lower road where John built a house. This is where Violet and I lived after we were first married. It was unfinished (and ) we finally finished it and added on Mike & Doug, both lived here their first years. We got the water out of a small spring fed stream & bathed in Milk Creek. Later I dug a well & had running water.

When we lived there I went to O.C. Vocational school & took body & fender & auto painting. This was about 1 year I spent on the G.I. Bill. Got $90.00 per mo. I worked at the Hawley Pulp & Paper 1 year after we were married also. I worked for L&L Walch logging for a year or so driving log truck. Logged at Pete's Mountain & hauled to Krupp Mill at Yoder. Crossed the ferry at Wilsonville empty. Went through O.C. loaded. Got a job at Mulino Sash & Door in 1952. Worked there till sold out to Mercer Industries, then moved the plant to Beaverton. Worked there till 1984. Was service man there for the last ten years. Traveled Oregon & Washington as service man.
