Edith Fern Keahey was born March 10, 1919 in Strong City, OK to Edith Myrtle and Rhett Davis Jones and passed away January 10, 1994 in the Roger Mills Memorial Hospital at the age of 74 years and 10 months.
Fern attended school at both Breezy Meadow and Crawford and graduated from Crawford High School in 1939. Fern worked one year at Hammon at Trent's Variety Store and it was during this time she married Gerald Clifton Keahey on March 13, 1943. She stayed with her parents while Gerald served overseas with the U.S. Army. After Gerald's return in 1945, they lived at their present homeplace for a short time before moving to Durham, OK, staying for 3 years. They returned to Crawford in 1949 where they have lived for the past 44 years.
Fern was a member of the Thursday Belles Home Demostration Club and was assitant post master at the Crawford Post Office. She also served as the inspector of the Election Board for many years and was a member of the Magnolia Baptist Church.
Fern always put Gerald and her children first before ever thinking of herself. She was a loving, kind mother who always enjoyed the beautiful flowers in her flower beds and enjoyed working in her vegetable garden.
Fern's grandchildren were a constant source of joy and delight to both she and Gerald, who had just celebrated their 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary with their family and friends on March 13, 1993.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers.
Services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 1994 at the Crawford School Gymnasium officiated by Galen Isaacs, and assisted by Ray Smart. Interment was in the Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, OK under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
