Elder Calvin C. Davis was a minister and was first pastor of the church of Maple Springs Primitive Baptist Church, Nella, Ashe County, NC 1880-1897. This organization was disbanded in 1897.

When he was in General Hospital Lynchburg, Matilda went by horseback to Lynchburg to nurse him. Family oral tradition

When Calvin died he owned a large watch. When he was buried one son wound the watch, placed it in his vest with the chain across his chest and buried it with him.
