Final rites for Mr. George Frank Zeigler, Sr., 83 year old well known Brookhaven and Lincoln County resident, were held at 4 p.m. Monday from the Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Moore, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in Rosehill Cemetery.
Mr. Zeigler died August 13 at his home after a long illness. Born and reared in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, Mr. Zeigler had been a resident of Brookhaven for the past 46 years. He was a retired construction foreman for the Illinois Central Railroad Company.
Mr. Zeigler was a veteran of the Spanish-American War, possibly the last of the veterans in Lincoln County. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Shriners and the Wahabi Temple. He was a member of the First Methodist Church. During his residency in Kentucky, Mr. Zeigler was a member of the Elk's organization.
Mr. Zeigler and his wife would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on September 27 of this year.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mirian Zeigler; a son, George Frank Zeigler, Jr. of Brookhaven; two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Kincade of Brookhaven and Mrs. Margaret Rayborn of Grenada, Miss., and seven grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were Harrison Case, Frank Schuler, Raiford Dickens, John Loper, Henry Hollis and Z. T. Adams. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Joe P. Crawford, members of the Men's Bible Class of the First Methodist Church and members of the Masons and Shriners of the Wahabi Temple.
