Mr. George Zeigler of Brookhaven was called to Estill, South Carolina, Thursday, by a message telling him of the sudden death of his brother, Mr. Rufus Sidney Zeigler, a resident of Estill for the past 35 years.
He was accompanied by his son, George Jr. and daughter, Mrs. Claude Kincade, who returned Sunday, leaving their father in South Carolina for an extended visit with other relatives.
Mr. R. Sidney Zeigler was a frequent visitor in Brookhaven, having spent the past Christmas holidays with the Zeigler family here. He was a prominent planter and saw mill operator and former Mayor of Estill.
Brief funeral services were held in Estill Saturday morning at 8:30 in the home of a niece, Mrs. Charleton Ellis and another ceremony and burial were made at "The White House Church" near Orangeburg, where the Zeigler family had attended church since childhood.
Mr. R. Sidney Zeigler is survived by three brothers, George F. Zeigler of Brookhaven, Harry Zeigler of Estill, S.C. and Eugene Zeigler of Florence, S.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Smoak and Mrs. Sally Shuler, both of Orangeburg County and a number of nieces and nephews.
