Cordelia Chittenden Maben

Memorial services will be held at 10 a. m. Monday, Jan. 26 at F. D. Sweet and Son of Willows for Cordelia Chittenden Maben, 94, of Willows. She died Jan. 18, 1998 at Chico Creek Healthcare Center in Chico.
She was born Nov. 3, 1903 in the Plaza District near Orland to Henry and Delia (Reager) Reed.
Her maternal grandfather, Martin A. Reager, was an early Glenn County settler. She moved to Ord Bend with her family at age 5. She began her education at the Ord Grammar School, graduated from Orland High School and attended Chico Normal School for two years. She left school to marry and was a homemaker for all her adult life. After her children were grown she served as a baby sitter for many families in the Willows area. Her favorite hobbies were gardening and baking cookies. She was "Grandma Cookie" to her many grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two husbands: Rolland G. Chittenden and Charles L. Maben, Sr.; a son John E. Chittenden; and a granddaughter Michelle Chittenden. Her brother, Thomas H. Reed, died in 1980 at the family ranch in Ord Bend.
Survivors included nine sons, Richard Chittenden of Berkeley, Gerald Chittenden of Hemet, Robert Chittenden of Willows, Delbert Chittenden of Colusa, Donald Chittenden of Port Orford, OR, Phillip Chittenden of Sacramento, Cecil Chittenden of Soldotna, Alaska, Douglas Chittenden of Artois, and Thomas Chittenden of Placerville, daughter, Mildred Tucker of Bayless; and three sisters, Phyllis Whitsett of Chico, and Martina Butler and Madge Reed, both of Willows. There are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity in care of the mortuary.
Private inurnment will take place at a later date at the Orland Odd Fellows. – Transcribed by E.
