J. WELSH GROVE
1813 -- 5-13-1893

J. Welsh Grove, one of the pioneers of Forest Co., died of paralysis at his home at the mouth of Little Hickory Creek on Saturday morning, aged 80 years.

He was born in Centre Co. and emigrated with his father's family to Plum Twp., Venango Co., in the year 1818. Early in life he moved to this county, and in the year 1845 was married to Rachel Gillespie. The family consisted of 6 sons and seven daughters, eleven of whom survive along with his wife.

In an early day, we are told, he supplied the wants of his neighbors in the way of spinning wheels, grain cradles and carpet looms, doing all the work by hand. He was also an expert in the art of shoemaking.

The funeral occurred on Monday at noon, the remains being laid to rest in the Zuendel burying ground on German Hill.
