Lewis Bailar was a resident of Glenwood Springs and vicinity since 1886 when he purchased a ranch south of town. He also owned the cemetery known as Rosebud which he donated to the city. He was 83 years old when he passed away. He was helping a neighbor, Miss Martha Nippel, work on a ditch on a nearby ranch. They had paused for lunch and after resuming work he fell lifeless to the ground.
