A pioneer to Glenwood Springs, Miss Laura Melissa Bailar, age 93, died 4 March 1960. She was born 5 Jan 1867, in Reeder, Kansas to Lewis and Margaret Dormire Bailar. At the age of 12 she moved to Leadville, Colorado and graduated from high school there before coming to Glenwood Springs when she was 17. She lived in Colorado 85 years and Glenwood Springs for 73 years. Her parents homesteaded the Valley View Ranch south of Glenwood Springs and gave the city land for Rosebud Cemetery. She was a reporter and proof reader for the Avalanche Echo News in Glenwood Springs for many years. She nursed soldiers during WWI at Grand Junction and Denver.
