This family lived at Americus, Montgomery county, Missouri. James R. Bess, son of Samuel Bess, was born in Pennsylvania and came to Missouri at an early date. He was a member of old Mt. Horeb Baptist Church for 32 years, but for 15 years a member of Bethany Baptist Church on Hancock's Prairie. He was ill only 10 days and left a wife, a son and four daughters at the time of his death near Americus, Missouri. Before his funeral arrangements were done, the news came that George W. Bess, his son died of pneumonia, at age 36-6-3. George took sick a few days after his father. They lived a mile apart. George left a wife and six small children. The two bodies were laid in the same grave in the Bush graveyard.
