The Hartford Day Spring, April 27, 1921
Francis W. Barclay, aged 84 years, well known Hartford resident and Civil war veteran, died at his home on Maple street last Sunday after an illness of several weeks. His death followed quickly that of his wife, who died on April 12.
Mr. Barclay was born in Edinburg, Ohio, in 1837. He came to Michigan after the Civil war and had been a resident of this section for many years.
As a young man he was married to Miss Amarilla Owens, who died in 1910.
In 1915 he was married to Mrs. Mary Calvin of Lawrence who died two weeks ago.
Surviving him are two brothers and a sister residing in Ohio, an adopted son residing in Canada, and two nieces living at Eau Claire. A stepson, John Calvin of Lawrence, cared for Mr. Barclay during his illness. The two nieces from Eau Claire were the only relatives able to come here for the funeral service, which was held at the Christian church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. J. S. Hamilton officiating, with burial at Maple Hill.
Mr. Barclay was a highly respected citizen and had long been prominent in the affairs of Ellsworth Post, G. A. R.
