Civil War Service - He enlisted Aug 11 1862 and was mustered in to Co I 104th OVI on Aug 30 1862 at Camp Massillon, Ohio. He was appointed a Corporal, the rank he held unitl he was discharged with the unit on Jun 17 1865 at Greensboro, North Carolina. There is a note in the 1890 schedule that he was wounded accidentally in his hand. He applied Jun 21 1865 for an invalid's pension which was granted (Cert # 51738). His widow applied for a pension (App # 1572400) but no certificate was issued.
He married Martha C Ellis on Jul 1 1865 in Portage County, Ohio They had three sons:
Francis "Frank" W. Barclay (1871–??) He married Laura Walter T. Barclay (1873–??) Robert John Barclay (1875–??) He married Mary A Shelliday
