Clay Clevenger was born June 24, 1912, the youngest child of Pittman Clevenger and Sarah Griffey Clevenger, and died December 15, 1979. He spent his entire life in and around Braymer.
He was united in marriage to Nina Fields December 25, 1932. To this union three children were born, Loretta Lee, Regina and Clay Dean.
He accepted the call to the ministry of Christ and was ordained June 27, 1954. He was the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Pattonsburg for five and one-half years, and his membership remains at that church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, one daughter, Loretta Lee, and one grandson, John Leslie Curnow.
He is survived by his wife, Nina, of the home; one daughter Regina Curnow of Mooresville; one son Clay Dean of Braymer; five granddaughters, Lynn Holst of St. Louis, Carla Morrison of Barry, Ill., Nancy Curnow of Mooresville, and Tomme Sue and Debra Clevenger of Braymer; one grandson, Bobby Clevenger of Braymer; two great-grandsons, John and Jarrad Holst of St. Louis; several nieces and nephews; three brothers, Sherman and Odus Clevenger of Braymer, and Milton Clevenger of Kansas city; two sisters, Florence Shiner and Goldie Mallett of Kansas City.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 17, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Braymer, with the Rev. Joe Porter and the Rev. Garland Stuart officiating.
Lila Stueart, soloist, sang `Sometimes We`ll Understand` and `Precious Lord`, accompanied by Gail Cockrell, organist.
Pallbearers were Clay dean Clevenger, Bobby Clevenger, Leroy Clevenger, Bill Kelly, Wayne Clevenger and Norman Clevenger.
