Joseph Karl Poch was born September 7, 1864 in Lemburg, Austria. Joseph Karl had lived in Vienna, Austria and Hamburg, Germany. In 1891, he came to Maxwell, Texas, at 26 years of age to serve a mission congregation. There he met Minna Louise Schulle and they were married in December 1892 in Maxwell.
In 1894 the couple moved to Yorktown, Texas, to serve for 28 years in St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Following Yorktown, Texas, the couple went to Bellville and Cat Spring for a period of 13 years. Louise suffered a fall and was confined to the hospital and died February 8, 1934 in Halletsville, Lavaca Couinty, Texas. Joseph Karl continued serving the church for another 13 years in Poth-Denhawken, Texas. He died March 19, 1960, at the age of 95+ years, in Yorktown, DeWitt County, Texas.
