The son of Toros and Mariam Sookiasian, he a twin but the twin died at or shortly after their birth. Nazareth had two children, Sarkis and Rose, with his first wife Manoushag Manooshian who died (possibly of complications from childbirth, reason uncertain) around 1901. Prior to that Nazareth had immigrated to Philadelphia, arriving at Ellis Island on June 11, 1900. He lived there with his brother Haroutune to make a life for his family in America. In 1909 his son Sarkis, who had been living with and raised by Nazareth's parents, traveled from Malatya through Egypt to France to America along with two cousins to join his father. Two years later in 1911 his daughter Varter Rose came to America as well, brought there by Mariam Donoian, who had been arranged to marry Nazareth. In order to allow her into the country, they were married right at Ellis Island on (or about) July 31, 1911. They had four daughters, Virginia, Louise, Mary, and Viola. His death certificate lists his birthdate as September 13, 1875, which is reflected on his grave, but he was older than that, and his burial record says he was born 1865/1866 instead. Other records give different years, though he did not know the exact date himself. He was most likely born between 1871-3. He became a naturalized U.S. Citizen in 1928 and listed his birth date as July 15, 1873 on that, but likely just picked that date. He died of a sudden heart attack at his home at 1647 N. 7th Street in Philadelphia at 9am on his day off from work at a factory. His death certificate says it was due to chronic valvular heart disease. He was originally buried at Monument Cemetery which was closed in 1956 and was moved by his family to Valley Forge Memorial Gardens.
