MARY E. ALLISON (mother)
(1763 - 1830)

Married Richard White Jr., son of Richard White, on 12 Mar 1820 in Washington County, Virginia, with Rev. Alexander McEwan presiding.

Richard appears to have died at a young age as Eleanor was appointed guardian of their 3 children Richard, Eleanor and William White on 19 Apr 1831 in Washington County, Virginia. She posted a bond of $5,000 with [her brothers] Absalom, Josiah and William Beattie as her security.

Eleanor's father wrote his will in 1834. He left her one quarter of his estate after all other legacies had been paid. However William lived for another 26 years.

Daughter Ellen married in 1852. She and her husband established a home adjacent to Ellen and Richard who appears to have remained at home with his mother.

In 1850 when the first census to report all members of a household was enumerated, Ellen lived in Abingdon with Richard (24), Ellen (22) and William (20). The entry stated that she owned land valued at $2,000.

On the eve of the Civil War Ellen/Eleanor was again enumerated. This census recorded the value of her land at $10,500 and her personal property at $6,930.
