Martha Dorcas Cowley was the daughter of Jerome Drue Cowley, Sr., 1810-(about)1866, who was born in Lincoln County, Tennessee and Permelia "Pamela" "Mary" "Sheba" Hosmer, 1813-1860, who was born in Massachusetts. Both died in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. Their memorials have not yet been located.

Martha married William Garrett Parsons, 1831-1906, on December 1, 1857 in Jefferson County, Alabama. They had at least five children together. The only child not shown below is John Parsons born in about 1875 in Jefferson County, Alabama and shown in the 1880 US Census as age 5 and not found again in any other documents.
