Nelson Oswin Bastian went peacefully into the presence of his beloved Lord on Wednesday, September 29, 1999. Nelson, one of six children, was born to Henry Louis and Elizabeth Louise Bastian on February 12, 1913 in Brillion, Wisconsin. He graduated from Taylor University and Moody Bible Institute. In 1939 he went to Nigeria, Africa as a missionary with S.I.M. There he met and married his life-mate Ethel Saunders, on January 2, 1941. In 1947 they began farming in the Olds area, then migrated to the Okotoks area in 1963 to farm the family farm near the Big Rock. Nelson is survived by his children and grandchildren, his sister, Eulalia Wolfmeyer and brother Herbert Bastian of Brillion, Wis. Nelson was predeceased by his dear wife Ethel in 1996 and also his sisters, Norma and Ora and his brother Ralph. Visitation was at Snodgrass Funeral Home with interment at Okotoks Union Cemetery.
