Margaret Jane Gaston, daughter of David Finis Gaston, Sr. and the former Mary Jane Fluker, was born at the family plantation in Wilcox County, Alabama on April 12th 1855. Known as Maggie by her four brothers and two sisters, she was the most gracious and beloved ot them all.
Like her siblings, Maggie received a classical education and attended Cooper Institute. Her father was a much admire man in the area and founder of the surrounding community known as Gastonburg.
Maggie Gaston did not marry until she was forty, serving as her fathers hostess after her mother died. In 1895, Maggie married Abner Clay Cooper, a widower with three small children. Maggie and Abner added two sons to their family:
