Charles E. Tanner Family - Walsenburg World - February 12, 1920 - One of the saddest affairs last week was the death of the entire family of Chas. E. Tanner. The Tanner family came here about three years ago from Pittsburg, Kansas. Mr. Tanner was in the employ of the Walsenburg Mercantile Co. The entire family consisting of Mr. Tanner, wife and baby were stricken with the flu on Tuesday, January 27, which developed into pneumonia and on Thursday, February 5th, Mr. Tanner died. His wife died on Friday, the 6th, and a joint funeral for the two was held on Saturday, the 7th. On Saturday, the 7th, Edwin the 21 month baby also died of pneumonia and was buried Sunday. Mr. Tanner was 28 years of age and came to Walsenburg from Pittsburg Kans. He was married about four years ago to Miss Hattie Fowler. Charles Tanner leaves behind him his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Tanner, living 14 miles east of this city, and his brothers, Gilbert, an employe of the Walsenburg Mercantile Co.; George, who works for a Sporleder Selling Co.; his sister, Mrs. Dewey Harrison; and a younger brother Alfonso and young sister Hazel who are living with their parents; besides grandparents and other relatives in Pittsburg, Kans. Mrs. Tanner has a mother and two sisters in Pittsburg, Kans., and a brother in France. Both George Tanner and Mrs. Harrison were sick with the flu and unable to attend the funeral. Mr. Tanner was an honest, industrious and trusted member of the Walsenburg Mercantile force, much missed by his employers. Charles Tanner and family - Huerfano World - February 9, 1989 - This Week in Walsenburg History - 1920: Charles Tanner, his wife and their baby all died this week, probably of the ''flu." Tanner was the shipping clerk at the Walsenburg Company. Tanner, Hattie Fowler & Infant
