Corporal Barb served in D Company, 1st Arkansas Cavalry (Dobbins) Regiment. Dobbin's Cavalry Regiment, also called 1st Regiment, was organized during the early spring of 1863, and in May totaled 450 effectives. Serving in the Trans-Mississippi Department, the unit skirmished at Taylor's Creek, around Helena, and up the White River. Later it was assigned to A.S. Dobbin's Brigade and was active in Price's Missouri Expedition. After some light action the regiment disbanded. Colonel Archibald S. Dobbin and Major Samuel Corley were in command.
