Joseph served as the postmaster of "Hopewell" from June 27, 1910 until it was discontinued on March 31, 1911. Mail then went onto Palisades. The Hopewell Post Office was located in Douglas Creek, near the base of Slack Canyon, and most likely operated out of his home during that time. A few years later, the post office of "McCue" would open in Douglas Creek near the mouth of Pegg Canyon along the Mansfield Branch Line.
