Mary O. Phelps Dies In Pocatello

Mrs. Mary O. Phelps, one of the earliest residents of Montpelier, died Tuesday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. O. B. Parrott in Pocatello, where she has been visiting the last three months.

Mrs. Phelps was born January 13, 1865 in Perry, Utah, and when three months old, came to Montpelier with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. David Osborn. In 1885, she married Joseph M. Phelps, who preceded her in death in February 1917.

Survivors are one daughter and three sons, Mrs. Parrott, R. O. Phelps of Oakland, California, M. O. Phelps of Pocatello, Ivan O. Phelps of Montpelier; two sisters, Mrs. Orson Thompson and Mrs. Henry Rigby, both of Salt Lake City; and two brothers, Glenn Osborn of Salt Lake City and Melvin Osborn of Danville, California.

Funeral services will be held in the Third Ward Chapel at one p.m. Saturday.

The remains were brought to Montpelier Wednesday morning by the F. M. Williams Mortuary.

Funeral Services Held Saturday

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Osborn Phelps were held Saturday in the Third ward chapel with Counselor James Whinham presiding.

The opening song, “Oh My Father,” was by a mixed quartet, Mrs. Brandon Wilcox, Mrs. Howard Heninger, A. J. Winters, and Lorenzo Swensen; invocation, David A. Lewis; speaker, President Sidney E. Burgoyne; vocal solo, “Going Home,” Mrs. Ed Grosjean; speaker, Bishop W. W. Clark; song, “I Know That My Redeemer Lives,” quartet; and benediction, Hyrum Holmes.

Interment was in the Montpelier cemetery and the grave was dedicated by James Whinham.

The F. M. Williams Mortuary was in charge of funeral arrangements.
