Whitfield Adamson, 78, passed away Tuesday, December 11, at 10:05 p.m. in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. His home was at 1114 W. Main St. and had been a resident of Cherokee the past 19 years, prior to this on a farm in Pilot township. He was born March 9, 1901 at Nelson, Nebraska. He was married to Lola Grove on January 24, 1923 at Cadams, Nebraska. She passed away on January 13, 1974, he then was married to Edith Swanson Ohlson on October 3, 1976 in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church at Aurelia, Iowa. He had farmed all his life retiring in 1960. He was selected as a Master Farmer of Iowa in 1953. He was a member and had held various church offices in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Edith, one son and two daughters, Darrell Adamson, Cherokee, Iowa, Mrs. LeRoy (Twila) Griffith, Scottsdale, Arizona; Mrs. LaDonna Hughley, St. Paul, Minnesota; 3 step-daughters, Mrs. Bert (Janet) Fellows, Boise, Idaho; Mrs. Sharon Susens, S. Lake Tahoe, California; Mrs. Larry (Margaret) Wogahan, Marion, Iowa.
19 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, also a brother and a sister, McKinley Adamson and Mrs. Hazel Statz, both of Nelson, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lola, one brother and one sister.
Funeral services for Mr. Winfield Adamson were held Friday, December 14 at 11 a.m. from the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Rev. Rex Whitman officiated and interment was in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. There was a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church. The Boothby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
