Emma Floretta Roberts, daughter of David and Elizabeth Baker Roberts, was born November 1, 1862 near the town of Hallansburg, in Dark County, Ohio, and passed away December 17, 1948, after a short illness, resulting from a fall, having reached the age of 86 years, 1 month and 17 days.
Mrs. Adamson grew to womanhood with her five sisters and brothers in their beloved Ohio home, studying music and becoming an accomplished musician, following it as a profession until after her marriage.
At the age of 27 years, she left Ohio and came to Nebraska, where a number of her relatives had already settled. She made her home with her Uncle Conrad Roberts and family, teaching music in a number of homes in Nuckolls and Clay counties.
She was united in marriage to Moses A. Adamson, on September 3, 1891, and with him started her new career as a home maker, for her husband and his two small children, on a farm near Angus. To this union six children were born, three of which survive.
In February of 1898, the family moved to the farm home two miles east of Nelson, where they reared and schooled their children, after which they retired from farm activities and moved to the present home in west Nelson.
It was on November 4, 1937, Mr. Adamson passed away following a brief illness.
Mrs. Adamson united with the Christian Church in early life, and continued as an active member so long as her health would permit, seldom failing in her attendance at all Church Services.
Children surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Hazel Statz, and sons McKinley of Nelson, and Whitfield of Cherokee, Iowa; Mrs. R.R. Morrow of Granville, N.Y.; and Glen of Nelson; twenty-seven grand-children, twenty-three great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Smock of Richmond, Indiana, and Miss Ella Roberts of Hollansburg, Ohio; a cousin, Mrs. Rose Leach of Edgar, Nebr.; four neices (sic) and two nephews in Ohio, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon, December 21, at 2:30, from the Christian Church in Nelson, by a former pastor, L.W. Myers, assisted by the present pastor, Brother J.W. Kennedy.
A granddaughter, Mrs. Irene Topliff, sang a favorite hymn, Nearer My God to Thee. A quartette: Mrs. Vera Wood, Leone Smith, Ollie Aikin and Floyd Rouse, sang "Shadows" and "In the Sweet By and By", accompanied by Mrs. J.W. Kennedy.
Burial was made in the Nelson Cemetery, with six grandsons acting as pallbearers--Clifford, Glenn, Jr., Earl, Joe and Darrell Adamson and Raymond Statz.
Those attending from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. L.W. Myers, Mankato, Kansas, Mrs. Rose Leach, son George and daughter, Mrs. Lora Hakinson, Edgar, Nebraska.
