He came to America by himself about 1861 at the age of fifteen to make his home in Guttenberg, with his sister, Mrs. G.F. Wiest and was a clerk in her husbands general merchandise store.
After many years he bacame a partner with his brother-in-law, and at the death of Mr. Weist in 1900, he continued in the general merchandise business until he disposed of the store several years later.
On December 26, 1870 he was married to Louise Luther at Guttenberg, Iowa. Their first son, Herman A. Class was born 10 years later in January of 1880. Daughter Selma, was born June 2, 1882 and their third son Albert G. was born December 19, 1885.
Adolph died on December 5, 1930 in Gutenberg at the home of his daughter, Selma Pohle.
