John Fredrick Johnson Ek was the son of John Johnson and Johannah Liberg. He was born 5th August 1847 at Fagraboda ,Skaraborg Lan Sweden. Grandfather had two sisters that I know of, Sofia and Malone.

When he was 18, he of course had to serve in the Swedish Army, and there was so many Johan and Johnson in the army that Grandfather was given the name Ek, after the place he lived in Ikaakug . He then dropped the name Johnson , and kept the name of Ek , as his family name for the rest of his life.

Grandfather was a shoemaker by trade in the old country. While in the army he was the manager of whatever they called it over all the horses and carriages owned by the Generals . He also drove the. carriages for one of the foremost generals.

Grandfather met and married Anna Charlotte Larson. They were married 21 of October 1876 . Chyrko Here Tangborn married them. Grandfather was 29 Grandmother was 31.
Grandfather had no schooling whatsoever. He Joined the Church of Jesus Christ of. Latter Day Saints a few years after Grandmother did.
Grandpa and Grandma and their family migrated to Utah from Sweden on the 23 of May 1888. All of their children were but my mother.
At first they lived at North Point, North of Salt Lake City, and it was here that their youngest child my mother was born.

Later they moved to Bacchus where they lived there many years. Grandfather was baptized and confirmed in the old country, but according to the ruling of the church at at that time , he had to be re-baptized and Confirmed. a member , after he came to Utah. This was done 2 of August 1888 by Gustave H. Backman and Sanford Bingham.

Grandfather was ordained a deacon 6 September 1888, by Nathan Hanson. Isaac Coon ordained him a elder 4 December 1893, and in the 21 June 1925 he was ordained a High Priest by Alexander J. Hill.
In 1893 , he was endowed and had his wife , and also his children sealed to him. This was done in the Salt Lake
Temple.
His vocation in Utah was farming . He owned land both in Bacchus and Pleasant Green, and years later, he moved to Pleasent Green , where he resided the rest of his life.

Grandfather was about five feet two inches tall and weighed around 135 pounds . He had blue eyes and reddish brown hair. His health was very good until the last year if his life , when he took to a stroke, from which he never fully recovered, which really was the cause of his death. He died of paralysis. 17 August 1927 , at the Pleasant Green, and was buried in the Pleasant Green
Cemetery.

I always remember Grandfather as a pleasant , easy going man.He was deeply religious, and although he didn't attend church very often, he lived his religion. Grandfather never learned the English language, and this probably accounts for his mingling with people or being active in the church more. I shall always treasure the memories I have of my Grandfather.
