Eva Anelia Hayes, age 90, of Centerville, Iowa, died Friday, January 9, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Clyde E. and Mary Elpha(Johnson)Hayes on May 26, 1913 in Centerville, Iowa. She graduated from the Centerville Community Schools in 1930.

In 1931, Eva began work at Centrex Dairy in Centerville until 1945 when she moved to Des Moines, Iowa and starting working for Beatrice Foods. She worked for Beatrice Foods in Des Moines, Davenport, Iowa, Council Bluffs, Iowa, before moving back to Centerville, Iowa, in 1962 when she started working at the office of the County Engineers until she retired in 1976. Eva was a member of the Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville and the Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary.

Eva was preceded in death by: her parents; sisters, Mary A. Long and Virginia Hayes; brother, William Hayes; niece, Linda Cardani and nephew, Jerry Lee Long.

Survivors include: her sister, Shirley Cardani of Centerville, Iowa; brothers, Robert C. Hayes of Centerville, Iowa and Jack E. Hayes of Parker, Colorado; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 12, 2004, at 10 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa, with Rev. Carl Heien officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2004, fron 1-8 pm with the family present from 5-6 pm at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.
