Doris Altman Fincannon, 80, of Leland, NC, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington.
She was born in Cumberland County, NC, May 3, 1929, daughter of the late William Alfred Altman and Beulah Tart Altman.
Doris loved life, traveling, playing bridge and was a member of St. Andrew's – Covenant Presbyterian Church. Mostly, she loved laughing with her family. Her spirit will continue to live on in the words of Dr. Seuss "be who you are…say what you feel…those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind".
Her will to live life to the fullest was an inspiration to those that she has left behind.: her husband of nearly fifty-eight years, Glenn Charles Fincannon; children, Glenn Craig Fincannon and wife Lisa and William Mark Fincannon and wife Sharon all of Leland; and Nancy Fincannon Forester of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Ashley Carmichael and husband Dr. Dusty Carmichael, Erin Fincannon Padgett and husband Jonathan, Christian Hope Fincannon, Mary Elizabeth Fincannon, Naomi Knowles Irion and husband Schain, Heather Knowles Isaacs and husband Chris, Kara Glenn Forester, and Ali Jo Forester; a sister, Grace Thompson of Raleigh, NC; a brother, Sam Altman of Dunn, NC; and several nieces and nephews. Four brothers preceded her in death, Raymond, Lewis, Robert, and Howard Altman.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2009, at St. Andrew's - Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1416 Market Street, Wilmington, NC. Officiating will be Rev. Rob Lapp, Rev. Steve Hein, Rev. Bill Altman, and a eulogy by Mark Fincannon. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road, Wilmington.
