He was born Oct.27,1939,in New Castle,a son of Glen Raymond and Beatrice (Wherly) Rees. Byron was a 1958 graduate of New Castle High School and a retired truck driver that had worked at several companies including New Castle Products.
Byron was a U.S. Air Force veteran,serving his country during the Viet Nam War as a truck driver with the 1405th Transportation Squadron.
He was a member of the New Lisbon Christian Church,loved sharing time with his family and enjoyed wood working.
Surviving are his wife,Betty Dudley Rees. They were married on Sept.25,1960;five sons,Martin L. (wife:Mitzie)Rees,Michael L.(fiance:Misty)Rees, James E.(wife:Gemma)Rees and Jeffrey L.(wife:Marsha)Rees all of New Castle, and David A. (wife:Stephanie)Rees of Losantsville;his mother, Beatrice O.Jones of New Castle;ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren;five step-grandchildren; a brother,Raymond Rees of New Castle;a half-brother and two half-sisters;several nieces,nephew, and cousins.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Macer-Hall Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary McCutchen officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by the V.F.W. and the American Legion.
