Thomas C. Tullis was 34, and living in West Point, Lee Co., Iowa, when he enlisted as Captain of Co. G of the 4th Iowa Cavalry on Oct 2, 1861. He was mustered into federal service on Dec 24, 1861. He died at Helena, Arkansas, on Feb 8, 1863, of disease ("congestion of the bowels"). He had served in the field in Missouri and Arkansas with his Company until his untimely death.
