Mr. O. O. "Skinner" Brown, age 78 of Crockett, passed away Tues. July 4, 2000 in Memorial Hospital in Lufkin. Mr. Brown was born and raised Feb. 17, 1922 in the Ash community and was a lifetime resident of this area. Mr. Brown was the fourth child of Owen and Margie Brown, graduating from Austonio High School in 1939. He was an outstanding basketball player being one of the five members of the Austonio Owls who went to the state championship in 1939. Mr. Brown was offered college scholarships for his basketball and track ability but chose to stay with his heritage of farming and ranching.
Mr. Brown founded S & B Chemical in Aug. 1971 and received numerous achievement awards for sales and services from various chemical and feed companies. In 1984, he received the Honory Chapter Farmer from Crockett FFA and Lovelady FFA. Mr. Brown served for several years on the ASC in Leon County. He also served on the school board in Centerville.
Mr. Brown was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Brown was a very generous and caring person, always willing to help people in any way possible. He spent his time doing what he loved which was working, his only hobby, never tiring from the responsibilities that farming, ranching, and operating his business required. Mr. Brown's love for ranching spans so many years, buying and selling many 1,000's of cattle.
Mr. Brown had a passion for the Dallas Cowboys, always wanting to coach just one game. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Mr. Brown had three children with Lottie Harrell Brown, raising the third child, Sandra, on his own assuming the role as mother and father.
Survivors include wife of 25 years Darlene Brown of Crockett; son Dean Brown of Pinedale, WY.; daughters Gloria Brown of Colo., Sandra Rains and husband Rusty of Centerville; step-daughter Darla McNabb and husband Kent of Crockett; grandchildren Jason Brown Horton and fiancee, Jermaine Bach of Crockett, Brandye Brown of Crockett, Erin Brown of Miss., Kayla Mitchell of Miss., David McNabb of Crockett; sister Ima Brown of Austonio; brothers Buddy Brown and wife Opal of Centerville, Loyd Brown and wife Elaine of Centerville; sister-in-law Eura Brown of Crockett; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services for Mr. Brown were held Friday July 7 at 10 a.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. John Goss, Mr. Jack Crow and Dr. Dan Dubberly officiating. Interment followed in the Creek Cemetery.
