Lloyd "Frenchy" Bertrand was born Aug. 31, 1902 at Lake Linden, Michigan to John and Emma (Chartier) Bertrand. He moved to the Butte area in 1908 and attended local schools.

He married Emma Kuether on 15 September 1928 in Minnesota. They were the parents of Don, Marlene, Lois, and Robert.

Frenchy died on July 13, 1985 in Butte.
