Ella Swisher of Battle Ground passed away at 10:20 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Indiana Veterans’ Home at age 92.
She was born May 26, 1924 in Battle Ground to the late Jesse and Mary (Bailey) Scowden and attended Battle Ground High School.

Ella married Lyle Melvin Swisher in November 1945 in Lafayette, and he preceded her in death in March 1993.

Ella was a lifelong member of the Battle Ground United Methodist Church, and Americus Quilting Club.
She worked for several years as head cook at Battle Ground Elementary School until her retirement.
Ella enjoyed spending her time quilting, reading, gardening, and spending time with her loving family.

She is survived by her children, Lloyd Swisher, Ronald Swisher, Jacqueline Lehman, and Glenda Shoemaker, as well as 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are siblings: Ernest Scowden, Earl Scowden, Ada Carte, Grace Cunningham, Winnie Proffit, and Minnie Scowden. She is also preceded in death by a grandson, Brad Shoemaker.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston.
Funeral Service 11 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2017 also at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home with a hour visitation prior.
Pastor Terry Brammer of Battle Ground United Methodist Church to officiate.
Interment to follow in Battle Ground Cemetery.
