B. Z. and Betty Jo were married April 17th, 1945 in San Leandro, California. B. Z. was serving in the U. S. Navy as a Lt. in the Dental Corps. They were married in the home of B. Z.'s brother, Collins Beaty, who was also serving in the Navy. Mrs. A. E. Lewis, B. Z.'s sister, made the train trip with Betty Jo for the wedding.
B. Z. attended the Abilene, Texas, schools and Hardin Simmons University and on to the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston. After graduating from Dental School in September 1944, he went into the Navy. In March of 1946 he bought Dr. Ray Ross's practice in Levelland and lived there until November 1947. Moving to Muleshoe, he practiced with his brother-in-law Dr. A. E. Lewis, for about one-and-one-half years before having his own office at 115 South 1st Street. He was in the same location until his death April 25th, 1985. B. Z. had to close the office about one year when he was called back into the service during the Korean Conflict. He was in the Naval Reserve but was loaned to the Air Force and sent to Brooks AFB in San Antonio, Texas.
B. Z. was a lifetime member of the Texas Dental Association and the South Plains District Dental Society. He was a charter member of the Muleshoe Jaycees. One of the big projects they took on was to put up street signs. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served as head usher for many years and he and Betty Jo were sponsors of the Youth Fellowship Group.
Betty Jo attended the Muleshoe schools and graduated in 1942. She attended business school in Lubbock and then worked at the Muleshoe State Bank for Mr. Jeese Osborn until she married in 1945.
