My Aunt Jean went by her middle name Jean and was my mother's youngest sister. She was fourth born of four children (all girls) to John Otto Johnson and Gracie Myrtle Osborn.

Jean married James Royce "Jim" Lakey on Jan 13, 1944 in Phoenix, Maricopa Co., Arizona. They were married 44 years at the time of Jim's death. Jean then married Royce Darwin Smith on Feb 3, 1990 in Colorado Springs, El Paso Co., Colorado. They were married 19 years at the time of Jean's death.

Jean and Jim had three children between them. First born was Cynthia Suzanne "Cindy" Lakey born in 1947, second born was John Robert Lakey born in 1952, and third born was Jack William Lakey born in 1955.

Jean Johnson Lakey Smith passed away on Saturday May 30th, 2009 in Colorado Springs. She was born in Harbor City, California on July 4th 1924 to Gracie (Osborn) and John Otto Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Martha Wilson, Leona Unroe and Ruth Jackson. She was married in January 1944 to Air Force Officer James R. Lakey, who is deceased. She remarried in Colorado Springs on February 3rd 1990 to Royce Smith, Lt. Col. USAF (retired), who survives. She is also survived by a daughter Cynthia S. Lakey Fischer of Ann Arbor, MI., a son Jack Lakey of Longmont, CO, a son and daughter-in-law John and Pamela Lakey of Tucson, AZ, and a grandson Jeffrey Lakey of Austin, TX. She had lived in Colorado Springs since June 1962 and called it home. The funeral will be held Thursday, June 4th, 2:00 PM, at Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel, the Rev. Dr. Gene Brink officiating. Entombment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum. Memorial contributions (in lieu of flowers) may be made to the American Heart Association.
