He was born on Oct. 6, 1923, in Jacksboro, Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. A Lubbock resident since 1948, he married June Leonard on June 19, 1948, in Borger. He retired from Southwestern Bell as a manager. A member of LakeRidge United Methodist Church, he was a former member of St. John's United Methodist Church for 32 years and worked on their benevolence committee for 12 years.
He is survived by his wife, Onita June Riggs of Lubbock; a son, Steve Riggs of Benbrook, Texas; a daughter Nedree Simpson of Golden, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.
