Marguerite Larkin Welch
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Marguerite Larkin Welch, 90, died on Saturday, June 5, 2010, in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Marguerite was born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 7, 1920. Her grandparents, John P Larkin and Catherine Cavanaugh, first moved to Cape Cod in the mid 1860s. Her father was born in Harwich, MA in 1876. He and is wife moved to Boston and raised their family of seven children there until they moved back to the Cape after the depression.

Marguerite left Cape Cod to find work in Boston. She enlisted in the WAAC Dec 31, 1942, in Boston. Marguerite completed the Officer Candidates Course May 10, 1943. She served in the WAAC and WAC during WWII. After service at Camp Blanding, FL, she was honorably discharged April 20, 1944, in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA.

For many years, Marguerite lived away from Cape Cod with her husband and children. During those years, she returned to visit her family until she moved to West Dennis, MA in 1964.

Marguerite graduated with honors from Cape Cod Community College in Hyannis, MA where she earned an Associate Degree and an RN in 1970 at age 50. She worked as a nurse on Cape Cod and later in Florida until she retired. Marguerite lived in St. Augustine, FL, before moving to Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, in 2000. She lived at Morning Pointe Assisted Living and their Lantern facility in Chattanooga, TN since March 2008.

She was predeceased in death by her parents Clara Louise Mexal and Daniel Joseph Larkin; her brothers, Francis B. Larkin, James R. Larkin, Daniel J. Larkin Jr., and Robert R. Larkin and a sister, Alice L. Brosnahan; her sisters-in-law, Norma Kee, Patricia Gardiner, Mary Norris, Kathryn Hurley, Abigail Norris, and Marian Mayo; and brothers in-law, James Brosnahan, Ralph Babusci Sr,. and William Mayo.

Marguerite is survived by her two children; her sister, Ruth Larkin Babusci of Hyannis, MA; 21 nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Welch requested that there be no service. A private burial of her ashes took place in the Larkin family plot at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Harwich, MA in September of 2010.
