Rebecca Goble Parkhurst married Giles Cook in 1842, Rushville, Rush Co., Indiana. Rebecca was from Urbana, Ohio and the widow of William Parkhurst. Rebecca had at least three boys from her first marriage. However the boys were eventually awarded to Jacob Parkhurst (1844) their grandfather and guardian. In the 1850 census, the Giles Cook family listed a son named John who was the son of Giles and Martha, his 1st wife. (deceased). By 1860 the boy (19) was no longer living in the Cook household.

In January 1842 he and Rebecca were newly married. In November they had their first child, William. They lived in Rush Co., north of Rushville but by 1860 they had moved to Henry Co., near New Castle and again in 1870 had moved to Wayne Co., Washington Township, just southwest of Richmond, In. All references to Giles Cook list him as a farmer and laborer. The 1860 census lists him as not being able to read or write.

Son: William Cook, was a civil war veteran who, on April 5 and 6 1862 survived the "Battle of Shiloh".
Daughter: Amanda Jane Cook (16) ran off and married Richard Duffey. He too was a civil war veteran. They remarried in 1907, prior to his death, to have an official marriage document. When she Amanda, applied for the Widows pension she had to submit several affidavits to prove her marriage to Duffey. Her brother, William, signed her affidavits as a Notary Public and listed his occupation as "Pension Agent".

Daughter: Margaret Ellen Cook's genealogy is unknown at this time.
