James Ogden (AKA Ogdon), son of Cornelius and Bathsheba Jarvis Ogden, was born in Virginia. He spent his earlier years farming and as a river boatman on the Ohio River. On March 29, 1821, he married Anna Gants/Gantz in Fayette Co, PA. In 1825, James and Anna came to Vermilion County IL from Fayette Co PA. They made the trip with their three oldest children, Alexander, Catherine (who mar. Noah Eli Hubbard) and Bathsheba. In a covered wagon, they brought all their household goods. Anna Gants Ogden carried a small box with her containing money received from her father's estate, Jacob Gants (b. abt 1790 in Maryland). This money was used to purchase property in IL. The box and a beautiful chest of drawers brought west in the covered wagon are still in possession of family members. Family tradition states that after the Ogden family arrived in Vermilion County, they went to the home of their friends, Achilles and Susanna Scott Morgan, whom they had known in the east. There they spent the night and as soon as possible, built their own log cabin and cleared their farm. These farmlands of the Ogden's, Morgan's and Howard's are now part of the area known as Forest Glen County Preserve.
