Virgil E. Gartner was born at Bladen, Nebraska, on March 6, 1909, to Elmer and Matilda Garner. He passed away Tuesday, May 18, 1993, at the Bethesda Care Center, where he and Nila have lived the past two years.
Virgil and Nila Reed were married on August 27, 1928, at Grand Island, Nebraska. They would have ce1ebrated 65 years together in August, 1993. I
Virgi1 worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 44 years,
retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Blue Hill United Methodist Church, Hastings Masonic Lodge #317 and the Burlington Northern Veteran's Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Bessie Burkholder, and brother, Glenn Garner.
Services were Friday at the Blue Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Baldeo Singh officiating.
Music was furnished by Hattie Jenny and Margaret Armstrong who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Life's Railway to Heaven". Marlys Kort was organist.
Interment was at the Blue Hill Cemetery with arrangements by Merten-Butler Mortuary of Blue Hill.
