Last Rites Held For Elmer L. Garner

Funeral services for Elmer L. Garner were held at the Methodist church in Bladen on Friday afternoon, April 15, conducted by Rev. Merle Jones assisted by Rev. Gertrude McCallum.

Raleigh Vance sang, accompanied by Mrs. Raymond Vance. Pallbearers were Rilla McIllece, Thos. Stoughton, Ralph Humes, Jonh (sic) Worley, Ed Kral and Ed James. Interment was made in East Lawn cemetery (sic).

OBITUARY

Elmer L. Garner, a long-time resident of Bladen, Nebraska, passed away at his home Tuesday afternoon, April 12 at 4:15 o'clock following a series of heart attacks. Mr. Garner had been ailing during the past few months and had been confined to the Mary Lanning hospital (sic) for a period of three weeks.

The son of Benjamin F. and Emma L. Garner, he was born at Hickman, Nebraska, January 24, 1880, and departed this life April 12, 1949, at the age of 69 years, 2 months and 19 days.

In 1900, he was united in marriage to Matilda Leisveld at Hickman, Nebraska. To this union were born seven children; three sons and four daughters: Gerald of Los Angeles, Calif.; Virgil of Blue Hill; Glenn of Bladen; Bessie Burkholder of Trenton; Sadye Fahrenbruch, San Angelo, Texas; Helen Jacobsen of Kearney and Goldie Bates of Blue Hill.

Mr. Garner came to Webster County in 1906 and farmed a mile north and a half east of Bladen, until the time of his death.

In the year, 1912, he became a member of the Congregational church of Bladen.

Being a most kind and loving father, Mr. Garner leaves to mourn his loss; his wife and children; one brother, Benjamin Garner of Hickman, Nebraska; one sister, Sarah Lafler of Hastings; thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren; as well as a host of friends and many other relatives.

Among relatives from out-of-town attending the funeral of Elmer Garner held Friday were Gerald Garner, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fahrenbruch and family, San Angelo, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Marian Burkholder and Betty, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Burkholder, all of Trenton; Mr. and Mrs. Norman Burkholder, Republican City; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Jacobsen and family, Kearney; Mrs. Charlie May, Mr. and Mrs. Orville May, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn May, Scott Leisveld, Mr. and Mrs. B.J. Garner and Lyle, all of Hickman; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Lafler, Hastings; Mrs. Drucka Fleming and Mrs. Vern Cody, Champion; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Dreibelbis and Charles of Des Moines, Iowa.

Others attending were Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Jacobson of Riverdale; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bierhaus, Mrs. Mattie Feis, Mrs. Kate Feis, all of Hastings; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schenk of Franklin; and Mrs. Millie Burns of Hastings.
