Dated Friday, July 17, 1914 from the collection of Frank J. Jennings -
James M. Baker was born in Calloway County, December 4th and died July 15, 1914, aged 89 years,7 months and 11 days.
Was married January 22, 1848 to Martha Etris and to this union were born nine children, five girls and four boys, all of whom with his wife survive him.
Mr. Baker was a member of the M. E. Church for more than sixty years. His grandfather was with General Washington in Revolutionary days and so intimately associated were they that Washington used the razor belonging to Mr. Baker's father and the razor is still preserved in the family.
Thus we find among us a man whose immediate kinsman cast his lot with other brave men that we might have our freedom under the stars and stripes.
Brother Baker has, like his foreparents gone the "way of all the earth" and has left us a legacy which if firmed into words would echo and re-echo around the earth.
Interment was made in Seaton Cemetery. The bereaved have the sympathy of a host of friends. A FRIEND [From contributor, Carolyn Boroughf]
